Citrus:

  • Orange: markets are steady, but have firmed up due to rain reducing harvesting. Peak sizes have shifted to 72ct and 88ct. Brix levels are around 13. Valencia oranges are expected to arrive by late May/early June. Quality is good.
  • Lemon: Markets are up and have firmed up as rain has helped fruit size up, with 115ct and smaller sizes tightening. The main growing regions are District 1 (San Joaquin Valley) and District 2 (Ventura County/Oxnard), with peak sizes at 95ct and larger. Quality is good.
  • Limes: The old crop in Mexico is completely done now leaving very few 110/150ct as the new crop continues to be heavy to the 200-250ct size range. We continue to be in the smallest volume season of the year, but the quality has also been much better than what is typical. This has been leading to lower quantities of #2s being available in the market as there has not been as much fruit with cosmetic defects.

Cucumbers:

  • Cucumber market is steady with no major change. Quality has been good on inbound.
  • Euro Cucumbers markets are steady on both Canada and Mexico. Quality is good.

Eggplant:

Market is elevated but will remain steady and the quality has been fair to good.

Grapes:

Markets are steady, but expected to get tighter and higher-priced compared to the past few months, as the Peruvian and Chilean overlap has ended and new arrivals have slowed. Chile is expected to maintain sufficient volume to bridge the gap between South American and Mexican imports. Quality is good.

Strawberries & Bush Berries: Alert

  • Strawberry markets are up and sold out. Volume is expected to increase mid next week as temperatures rise. Availability remains tight due to high demand from the end of the Florida and Central Mexico seasons, coupled with elevated Easter demand. Quality is fair.
  • Raspberry markets are steady. Production from Central Mexico and Baja remains steady but light, with West Coast production expected to begin in early May. Quality is good.
  • Blueberry markets are up. There is a shortage of product coming into the U.S. from Central Mexico and Baja, with Florida production just starting in small volumes. Georgia will follow shortly, and we expect improved supplies from all regions by the last week of April. California will begin light production over the next few weeks. Quality is good.
  • Blackberry markets are steady, but supplies are tight. Shippers are experiencing a demand-exceeds-supply situation due to a shortage of quality product from Central Mexico. Much of the incoming produce is not meeting quality specifications, limiting the amount of usable transfer fruit. Quality is fair.
