Market Outlook
Primo Weekly Market Update
Lettuce:
The lettuce market has come off sharply. Costs will be lower for next week. We continue to see mostly good quality on inbound, with occasional pinking.
Leaf:
Romaine and romaine heart markets remain elevated. Quality has been mostly good on Romaine with some minor fringe burn. Green leaf and red leaf are elevated, but pretty steady from last week. Quality has been good overall.
Broccoli:
The broccoli market has turned around and is moving back up. Quality has been good on inbound.
Cauliflower:
The cauliflower market following broccoli back up. Quality has been very good.
Carrots:
The carrot market out of Canada steady for next week. Quality has been only fair to good lately.
Celery:
The celery market is steady and a very good value. We are seeing good quality on inbound.
Strawberries:
We are seeing mostly good quality on Florida berries and steady costs at the lower end for next week.
Potatoes:
The Idaho potato market is steady for next week across the board on all sizes for next week.
Onions:
The onion market is steady with great quality out of Oregon/Idaho.
Citrus:
The California lemon market is about steady overall. Small lemons (165’s and 200’s) seem in very short supply and cost is very high. We are seeing very nice quality. Navel oranges continue to be in short supply, but the market remains steady. The Lime market remains strong for next week. We are seeing good quality on inbound.
Cucumbers:
The cucumber market has remained steady for next week with no changes. Quality has been very good.
Peppers:
The green pepper market has peaked and come back down slightly. Quality has been fair to good.
Tomatoes:
The round tomato market is steady on large, up slightly on small tomatoes. Overall, supplies and demand are light. We are seeing excellent quality. Grape and cherry tomatoes are steady. Both are showing good quality. The Roma market is steady with supplies from Mexico and Florida. We are seeing excellent quality across all tomato lines.
Recipe of the Week
Bacon Wrapped Cherry Tomatoes
Ingredients:
1 pack cherry tomatoes (12 oz)
1 pack bacon (12 oz)
Toothpicks (soak the toothpicks in water for a few hours)
Nanami Togarashi (Japanese assorted chili pepper)
Directions:
Cut the bacon strip into half-length. Put the cherry tomato towards the end of the bacon strip and wrap tight. Hold the cherry tomato with a toothpick, set aside. Sprinkle some Nanami Togarashi onto the bacon.
Heat up an indoor grill and grill until the bacon turns brown and crisp. For an outdoor grill, use low heat. Serve immediately.
