Lettuce markets are steady. Warm temperatures in Yuma have accelerated the growth of this commodity. Some common defects being reported include misshapen heads, pinking, and discoloration. Quality is fair to good. 

Leaf: 

– Romaine markets are steady. Warm temperatures in Yuma have caused romaine to grow rapidly. This market is expected to turn around in the next week or two. Common defects that are being reported include slight blistering/peeling and a bit of fringe burn. Quality is fair to good. 

– Romaine Heart markets are steady. Warm temperatures in Yuma have caused romaine to grow rapidly. Romaine hearts will have good availability, but expected to turn around in the next week or two. Common defects that are being reported include slight blistering/peeling and a bit of fringe burn. Quality is fair to good. 

– Green and Red Leaf markets are steady. This market is expected to turn around in the next week or two. Common defects that are being reported include slight blistering/peeling and a bit of fringe burn. Quality is fair to good. 

Lettuce Tender Leaf: 

Supplies are better on parsley, cilantro, spinach, spring mix, and arugula due to the current warm weather in Yuma. Overall, the quality is expected to be fair. 

Broccoli: 

Markets are coming down. Supplies are slowly starting to get better in Santa Maria, Yuma, and Mexico. The quality continues to be fair to good. 

Cauliflower: 

Cauliflower markets are still coming down. Cauliflower supplies are improving in Santa Maria and Yuma. The warmer weather in Yuma is starting to spur growth. Quality is fair to good. 

Carrots: 

– Cello and Loose markets are slightly active as Canadian carrots come to an end. Quality is good. 

– Value-add Snack Carrots are steady. Quality is good. 

Celery: 

Celery market is still coming down. Production in Oxnard/Santa Maria is steady on all sizes. The quality continues to be above average with only slight seeder being reported. Rain and cool temperatures after today will escape the growing regions for the next 3-5 days. In terms of value-added products, there is no escalation. Florida’s production continues to be very light. 

Strawberries & Bush Berries: 

– Strawberries markets are very active. Rain out west is causing delays with harvest and the Florida heat has caused quality issues down south. Quality is fair at best. 

– Raspberries markets are slightly up. Quality is fair to good. 

– Blueberries markets are active with demand exceeding supply. Georgia fruit should be available in about two weeks which should bring some price relief. quality is good. 

– Blackberries markets are up and availability is tight. Limited numbers are coming out of Central Mexico. Common defect we are seeing is red cells. Quality is fair. 

Potatoes: 

The potato market is starting to tighten up. We will be in old crop for another 4 months, Quality is good 

Onions: 

The onion market is steady. Overall availability and quality are good. 

Cucumbers: 

– Cucumber market is steady. Supply has shifted to Florida product and Quality is good. 

– Euro cucumbers is elevated but steady. Quality is good. 

Peppers: 

– Green bells markets are still elevated but steady. Quality is good. 

– Red Pepper markets are slightly down. Quality is fair to good. 

Herbs: 

– Basil: We are still seeing quality issues and some availability issues as well. Overall, quality is fair to good. 

Citrus 

– Orange markets are steady. Quality is good. 

– Lemon markets are up and tight on small fruit. The rain caused the fruit to size up fast. Quality is good. 

– Limes Supplies in Mexico are becoming more complicated. Crossings have declined significantly and yields consist of predominately small fruit. Large sizes will remain limited. Availability is expected to decline through mid-April. We could be in short supply. Expect a [potentially] significant price gap between small and large fruit. Overall quality is good. 

Tomatoes: 

Round supply out of Florida is steady with great quality. Crown fruit is peaking at large sizes. Mexico’s round supply is steady. During the next few weeks, Roma’s out of Florida are light as they look to transition to the Ruskin Palmetto area. The Western Roma supply is also transitioning to the spring season. Grape supplies are strong on both coasts. 

Cabbage: 

– Green Cartons: markets are steady. Quality has been good. 

– Red Cartons: Markets are steady. Quality has been good. 

– Bagged Cabbage: Markets are steady. Quality is fair to good.
