July 12th, 2024 Market Report

 Lettuce: 

Lettuce markets are rebounding and moving back up. Weights are ranging from 38-46 pounds. There is an AOG increase on all Lettuce Value-add products. Expect to see slight irregular shaped heads and discoloration on the outer leaves. Quality is fair to good. 

Leaf: 

Romaine markets are about steady. Expect to see slight fringe and tip burn. Quality fair to good. 

Romaine Heart markets are steady. Quality is good. 

Green and Red Leaf markets are steady. Expect to see slight fringe and tip burn. Quality is fair to good. 

Lettuce Tender Leaf: 

Arcadian, Arugula, Spinach and Spring Mix markets are steady. Quality is fair to good. 

Italian Parsley & Cilantro markets are steady on the strong side. Quality has been good on recent arrivals. 

Broccoli: 

Markets are rebounding and moving up. The this an AOG increase on all Broccoli Value-add products. Quality is fair to good. 

Cauliflower: 

Markets are moving up off the bottom, but remains a pretty good value. Quality is good. 

Carrots: 

Cello markets are steady out West. Georgia has finished and Ontario just starting. Costs are a little higher. Quality is good. 

Loose market is higher again on Mexican crossings with fair to good quality. Georgia has finished and Canada just starting with very light volume. There is a lot of pressure on the Jumbo market. 

Value-add Snack Carrots are steady. Quality is good. 

Primo Weekly Market Update 7/12/24 

Celery: 

Mexico and California markets are steady to slightly lower. Quality is good. 

Strawberries & Bush Berries: 

Strawberry markets are steady. Watsonville and Salinas have reached their peak production. Over the next few weeks, we will see a slow, but steady decline in production. Quality is good. 

Raspberry markets are up. As the fruit becomes more difficult to handle and harvest due to excessive heat, availability has dropped. Quality fair to good. 

Blueberries markets are higher on product out of New Jersey. The better-quality fruit is in NJ. 

Blackberries markets are steady and strong. As the fruit becomes more difficult to handle and harvest due to excessive heat, availability has dropped. Quality fair to good. 

Pineapples: 

Market steady/ strong for next week. Quality has been good on recent arrivals. 

Potatoes: 

The Potato market is at the bottom. 40’s and 50’s continue to be tight. Quality has been fair. We will be into Burbank’s within the next 2 weeks. New Crop is projected for August 12-19 

Onions: 

The onion market is strong. Pricing is starting to fall off a bit. Quality has been fair to good 

Cucumbers: 

Cucumber The market is higher with light volume in the South on both selects and supers. We are sourcing from North Carolina, New Jersey and Pa. Quality has been good on inbound. 

Euro Cucumbers markets are steady. Great quality and larger size cucumbers continue to bring a few dollars more. 

Squash: 

The green and yellow squash market is steady at the lower end with good supplies in NJ. We will have New Jersey and PA product for next week. Primo Weekly Market Update 7/12/24 

Eggplant: 

Eggplant supply is in pretty good shape and costs are up slightly on product from the South. New Jersey has just started new crop. Quality has been good on recent arrivals. 

Peppers: 

Green bells market remains strong on all green pepper with limited supplies available in the South. Quality on inbound has been good overall. New Jersey has started with very limited volume. 

Red Pepper markets are very strong with VERY LIGHT supplies. Quality has been sharp on recent inbounds. 

Chile Pepper Jalapeno pepper market is higher on southern product. Quality has been sharp on recent arrivals. New Jersey had started with light volume and high costs. Mexico has moved into better supplies and costs are drifting down. 

Herbs: 

Basil: quality is good. 

Citrus: 

  • Orange Markets out of California are firm. Valencia’s are the main variety now. There is a peak in fruit production for 72ct and larger; 88/113/138ct are extremely scarce and will remain so until the end of the navel season. Quality is good. 
  • Import Orange market is up and sold out. Quality is fair to good. 
  • Lemon Markets out of California are steady on sizes 115ct and larger. Markets on sizes 140ct and smaller are up and extremely tight. Quality is good 
  • Import Lemon market is higher. Quality is good. 
  • Lime Hurricane Beryl changed directions, sparing Veracruz from the high winds. The area continues to get rain and will daily for the next 7+ days. Long term the rain will be good for the lime trees, but short term it has increased the amount of stylar, skin breakdown, and oil spotting. Sheds will grade out as much as possible, but defects can develop in transit. On a positive note, we are seeing more 150 and 175ct sizes starting

Grapes: 

Markets are stronger on red and green grapes. Quality has been very nice on Mexican fruit. We will transition from Mexico to California fruit in the next 10-14 days. 

Tomatoes: 

The market on round tomatoes is about steady. Romas out of the south and Mexico remain strong. California just starting. Good quality out of both Florida and Mexico. Grape tomatoes are higher with very limited supplies available. Cherry tomatoes are also moving up. 

Cabbage: 

Green Cartons: Markets are a little stronger. Georgia and North Carolina finishing. Canada just starting. New York should start harvesting the week of 7/15. Quality has been sharp on inbound. We will have new Jersey product in stock. 

Red Cartons: Markets are steady. Quality is good. 

Bagged Cabbage: Supplies are very short, and quality is only fair.
