Lime With all the rain that Veracruz has had lately, and more expected this weekend, we will start to see the size curve shift from smaller sizes to the larger sizes. In addition to larger fruit, the rains have also brought more quality issues like stylar, skin breakdown, and oil spots. Growers are fortunately starting to let the fruit stay on the trees a little longer after the rains to get some of the excess moisture out of the skins before harvesting. Packers are grading out as much of the defects as they can, and we are often having to regrade and rework the fruit on the US side before shipping it out as well. This is leading to slower shipping times in some cases. Pricing on the larger sizes (110/150ct) have eased off again this week, with the mid-range and smaller sizes leveling out more.
