Peppers:
– Green bells markets are strong. The supply of Florida is limited this week due to weather during the planting season, there was a delay in planting, creating heavy first-pick peppers. Mexico’s supply is limited this week. Quality is good.
– Red Pepper markets are still up and holding steady. Quality is fair to good.
Citrus
– Orange markets are steady. Markets have been low but will firm up with rain/cold weather in the forecast. Quality is good.
– Lemon markets are steady. Quality is good.
– Limes Costs are still elevated in Mexico, however, low demand trends in the U.S. have slowed price elevations. Quality defects in the form of skin breakdown/oil spots are becoming more prominent due to lack of rain; fruit is highly stressed, impacting overall shelf life. As general coloring on the fruit has darkened, blanching will become more noticeable; please note the difference between blanching and yellowing, as blanching is a quality defect and yellowing is a conditional defect. Supply is forecasted to be limited throughout March and potentially into the first few weeks of April.
Tomatoes:
Yields from Florida remain light but volume from Mexico has increased which is keeping the market steady. Tomatoes continue to come from Florida and Mexico. The quality overall is good.
